GREENSBORO, NC, UNITED STATES, October 24, 2023 /EINPresswire.com/ — The national trade association for school photography and yearbooks, School Photographers of America (SPOA), announced their spring 2023 Student Photo Contest Grand Champions and previously this month school administrators had the chance to honor the following individuals in three categories.

Frank Novak of Amery High School in Amery, Wisconsin took the Champion Award in the Student Life category, capturing an image of 3 fellow graduates commemorating their graduation day. Frank began photographing in the Fall of 2021.

Since graduating, he has continued to follow his passion at Simpson College in Indianola, IA. More of his work can be found here: Frank Novak Photography (franknovakphotos.com)

Abby Gedville of Lakes Community High School in Lake Villa, Illinois let her love of sports media lead her to be the Champion of the Spring Sports category. The award-winning submission was taken during a Northwestern University’s men’s baseball game this past May. Dyllan Kolinen of Westminster Christian School in Elgin, Illinois not only won the Creative Category, but received the highest score ever given to a student with his image, “Kodak Instamatic 414”. Dylan is a junior with a passion for nature and street photography shooting both digital and film. His portfolio can be viewed here: https://dyllankolinenphotography.com/portfolio/

Dyllan, Abby, and Frank will all now have the joy of photographing with brand new Sony A7c camera kits that were awarded to them from the partnership SONY has with (SPOA) School Photographers of America. These 3 students beat out over 2300 other middle and high school students from around the country with these images. David Crandall, executive director of SPOA, said “Having a partner like Sony reward these students with brand new Sony camera kits is amazing and shows their vested interest and investment into education and future professional photographers.” SONY and School Photographers of America are hosting another student photo contest currently and submissions to enter are due November 10, 2023. SPOA has already launched the 2023-2024 National Fall, Winter and Spring Photography Competition. SONY has renewed their partnership and is committed to continue to support and sponsor the competition with cameras as well as future student trainings. “I am so excited for what is to come with the SPOA and SONY partnership with US Schools. The level of photography we are seeing from these students and yearbook staffs is simply incredible. This next month we are sending SONY cameras and master photographers out to the JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention in Boston, MA to teach hundreds of student photographers from across the country how to become a better photographer. All of this is done for free because of partners in education like SONY and our company members volunteering their top talent.” says Crandall.
